    UNDERGROUND PARKING


Golden Horizon Apartments will accommodate families hence there is a need for a large parking space. On the ground floor level, smaller parking spaces will be made available but this cannot accommodate all residents hence the need for underground parking with a large holding capacity. This post will consist of four parking spaces around the world. I decided on three because most parking spaces do not contain all the features needed for a highly efficient parking space. Hence, I will discuss the most potent qualities of these underground parking spaces. 




                                                        ELECTRIC CAR SUPPORT 

In our current day and age, electric cars have become more common due to the growing need to move away from petroleum due to global warming and green house gas emissions. Therefore, there is a need for the Golden Horizon Apartment complex to be able to provide car owners with charging ports to recharge their car batteries. According to Anderle ( 2014) Juice bar charging spaces are available free of charge in the parking space of the Canopy Airport in Denver. However, since the prices of the social housing have been subsidized at Golden Horizon, residents who use the charging spots will have to pay for the service.                                                   PARKING GUIDANCE SYSTEMS

In a large parking space trying to find a good parking space can be difficult. Hence the reason why Parking Guidance Systems were created. According to McKellar( 2018), inbuilt detectors scan parking areas to check for availability as well as indicators which turn green for vacant space and red for unavailability.  This will aid those with poor eyesight and the elderly as viewing signals through colours will be easier. It will also reduce carbon emissions as fuel will not be wasted going in circles looking for a vacant parking space. It will also enable security teams to manage or make a rough estimate on the cars that are parked in the vicinity ( McKellar, 2018). The Regina General Hospital as you can see in the picture below has a parking guidance system. 






                                                       SUSTAINABLE LIGHTNING

Making sure that electricity is not wasted is essential in preserving energy and this can be done using motion sensor light systems. Monitor sensors will reduce the stress of having to turn on and off light switches as well as ensure security( Galang, 2024). As you may know, there are also motion sensor light systems at DMUIC in all classrooms. This goes a long way to preserve energy as there are many classrooms dependent on one main energy supply. The image below is of the Volkswagen underground garage. As you can see LED motion-censored lights have been installed on the ceiling and they turn on and off depending on movement. 





To conclude, these layouts enabled me to incorporate the use of sensory lights, parking guidance systems as well as Electric car charging ports into my design in order to make the parking space sustainable and innovative

    How did looking at these examples help you make decisions about your design for the car park? Make that clearer in this post please.
