SITE PLAN ANALYSIS

                  PROJECT SITE PLAN

A site plan is a bird's eye view sketch of a region or area. In order to enhance the site plan, an analysis also has to be made of the climate, transport and accessibility in the town or region.

The map above illustrates the precise location of the Golden Horizon Apartments. It is located in Cromwell, Connecticut directly opposite the St Elizabeth Seton Church. The area of the site is 79,119.77 m² and the total perimeter is 1,138.3 m. The site consists of four main apartment blocks, underground parking, ground-level parking, playground as well as an outdoor lounge not forgetting the garden. The image above is of vegetation that has currently been burnt down. However, in my site plan, I included new layouts of plants that will be cultivated to restore nature's balance.

To aid in accessibility there are two roads which are Brooke Street road and the Hawthorn Circle road which residents can use to commute to and from the residence. To prevent congestion at the residence there are two entrances and exits to the Golden Horizon Apartments.

In total there will be 29 two bedroom apartments, 10 three bedroom apartments and 8 four bedroom apartments which amounts to 47 apartments on the premises which can accommodate 200 residents.

Cromwell has been burnt down hence the statistics used in this blog is based on the previous analytical reports.

                                               LANDMARKS IN CROMWELL

Cromwell Massachusetts is known for the Brownstone Exploration and Discovery Park. It is a recreational centre that houses rock-climbing walls epic rope swinging, zip lines and inflatable water courses( Raes, 2021). It is open to the general public from June to September ( Raes, 2021).

Dinosaur State Park which is less than 10 minutes away from the Golden Horizon site houses footprints of  the Dilophosarus which tourists can analyze  as well as other dinosaur discoveries which were found around Connecticut( Res, 2021)

Other landmarks include the Cromwell World War One Memorial and the Cromwell Historical Marker ( thelandonofcromwell)

                                                 CLIMATE IN CROMWELL

The month with the highest snowfall is March ( 105mm) and it snows for 6.2 days ( Weather Atlas)

The coldest time of the year is January with temperatures reaching 1.1 degrees Celsius and a minimum average of -5.5 degrees Celsius ( Weather Atlas )

The hottest period of the year is in July with temperatures reaching 28.3 degrees Celsius and the lowest during this period being 17.8 degrees Celsius. ( Weather Atlas)

On average Cromwell receives 48 inches of rain per year, 35 inches of snow per year and 190 sunshine days per year ( best places)

In order to ensure that flooding does not occur on site, there will be in built drainage systems that will
utilize some of the rain water to water the plants on site with the excess surface run off being diverted  to the Connecticut river

You may have also noticed I have changed the name of my project by adding Golden to the Horizon. I used the word gold because gold is highly treasured and treated with care. A horizon is where the earth and sky seem to meet. Hence the gold represents the residents who are of high importance and the horizon is where I as a designer and employees at the residence meet with the tenants to build healthy platonic relationships.

Above is the sketch of my site plan which will be used in my design boards

  1. How have the weather conditions impacted your design? For example, the amount of rainfall should make you consider drainage from the car park. Make that clearer in this post.
