MATERIALS AND SUSTAINABILITY

Image
MATERIALS AND SUSTAINABILITY After I have completed the prototype of my project, I have to think about the materials I will utilize in my real-life project. My project is a commercial art gallery situated in Ilot Fertile. This place is known for its low carbon levels hence using sustainable materials for my construction will maintain the balance of nature in that area.  Besides my personal research, construction this post will also be based on the construction materials used in the building of the Ilot Fertile high-rise buildings     LIMESTONE Limestone is a sedimentary rock which consists of calcium carbonate in the form of calcite. From my previous geography classes during my IGCSE and A levels, I learnt that limestone is formed through both a biological and chemical process. With the biological process, when shellfish in the ocean die out, their debris builds up on the ocean floor creating several portions of limestone. This process has been going

PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT

Image
STAGES OF MY PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT In the first session of week 7, I began the 3d phase of my project. After I completed my final sketch, I began to consider the materials I would use for my main 3d model. To practice with some materials on a smaller scale I used mount board and acetate to create my prototype.  Before I decided to use mount board, I tried experimenting with cardboard. but I realized the cardboard was not strong enough and it was too thin. This is the image my prototype was based on. Since it is not my final outcome, I decided to make just the ground floor and the first floor. I began by assembling the tools and materials I would need for this. I used a pencil to mark out dimensions as well as a craft knife to cut through the material and the ruler to ensure I made straight lines when cutting. I also used a cutting board to avoid cutting lines on the actual table. I began by making the rounded shaped windows with the mount board. I carved several lines i

PROJECT SUMMARY FOR PRESENTATION

Image
PRESENTATION IN WEEK 7 KUGGEN BUILDING     This blog post is a major summary of what my project entails as well as my aims and objectives  AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF MY PROJECT First of all my theme is pop art. I selected a pop art theme because it will enable me to express myself vividly through vivid designs and colours as well as sending out a message.  The main objective of my project is to create an Art Gallery in a developing area which is the Rosa Parks district in France. This Art gallery will serve as a major landmark which will provide the residents as well as tourists with a wonderful art experience. This area is not known for having art galleries hence mine will be the first to be constructed in that area. I will make one final 3d outcome and 62d sketches of my work.  INTENDED OUTCOMES This art gallery will house sections where artworks are exhibited to the public. This includes both 3-dimensional and 2-dimensional artwork. There will

EXPERIMENTATION SESSION PART 2

MODIFIED SKETCHES DURING                            EXPERIMENTATION SESSION At long last, my sketches were coming to fruition. For the second phase of my project build-up, I decided to make larger drawings with more details In the second phase, I planned to make three major sketches. The main idea  I had in mind was stacked Architecture. I indirectly used ideas from the object inspiration lesson in this. The object which was a flower was not simple and had different features to it which made it unique. Therefore, I settle on the stacked Architecture idea considering a contemporary design. This drawing was made using an isometric technique where the building is drawn at a 30-degree angle. It is a three-storey art gallery that has an open rooftop.                           USING THE LIGHT BOARD TO ADVANCE MY SKETCHES  A light board is a drawing tool which illuminates light. It enables individuals to make new sketches or trace old sketches to create

FURTHER IDEA SKETCHES pt 1

EXPERIMENTATION SESSION Week 6 began with tutorials but in the second session, an experimentation class was done. This experimentation session was held to enable us to use a different medium for our sketches, alter the overall design, change the general outlook, or try out different colour palettes. I was really looking forward to this session because I did  not have a concrete idea planned out of what my final outcome would look like hence, I was really looking forward to this session                                                                                                                                             BUILD UP OF MY SKETCHES  This was the first main sketch I made after the crazy 8 idea generation in week 1. Since my project is an art gallery, I was going for a contemporary outlook regarding the design. Hence, flowing organic lines are present as well as glass windows. However, this sketch was not satisfactory so I contin

SKILL WORKSHOP TWO POINT PERSPECTIVE

Image
TWO POINT PERSPECTIVE WORKSHOP In week 5 we had a perspective session where we practiced perspective drawings, specifically, 2 point perspective drawings. First of all, I began by assembling the tools I would use for this. I used a ruler, a pencil and an eraser. The medium I used was a sheet of A3 paper. My tutor provided me with the reference image which is a brick house. I studied the image to identify the features before beginning my sketch. I am already familiar with the point perspective as I took a technical skills course when I was in Year 7 through to Year 9. Hence this was just a class to enable me to polish the skills I already possess.  I began by drawing a horizontal line from the left to right ends of the sheet.  The next thing I did was to locate the focal points on the horizontal line. These two focal points are the spots in which all shapes drawn will move towards. After that, I started to draw the main shape of the building which is a brick

Auckland Art Gallery New Zealand

Image
RESEARCH ON ART GALLERIES                             AUCKLAND ART GALLERY, NEW ZEALAND The Auckland Art Gallery in New Zealand is a prominent and well-known Gallery amongst the citizens of this country. It is one of the oldest Art Galleries as it was established in the year 1887. The Architects who designed the initial structure were John Harry Grainger and Charles D'Ebro. It was later redesigned into a contemporary building by Archimedia and FJMT Architects and was reopened in 2011.  The building has a canopy-like structure at the forefront made from kauri wood. The wood is carved into various geometric shapes to produce a synchronized pattern that blends in with the environment. The structure is situated in Albert Park, hence, the see-through glass windows allow tourists to admire both the natural scenery on the outside and the artwork in the building. The canopies have inbuilt lights which when turned on at night give the wooden canopies

SITE PLAN & DEMOGRAPHICS

Image
SITE PLAN ANALYSIS My Art Portfolio project is a commercial art gallery with a pop art theme. This art gallery will be located in Paris France. A building cannot be constructed without the selection of an appropriate location therefore I have found an area located in Paris where the building will be based My project is a commercial Art Gallery therefore situating it in a business district is a great business strategy to attract customers. It will be situated in Ilot Fertile located in the Buttes Chaumont district of Paris. The Ilot Fertile is surrounded by many restaurants, shopping centres as well as transport routes. This will make it easier for customers to satisfy their needs and wants as well as navigate their way back to their residences.                                                               DEMOGRAPHICS Buttes- Chaumont is the 19th district in Paris with a population of 181,616 people( 2021). It has a total area of 6.790km^2 with a p

VIJAY PATEL WORKSHOP SESSIONS

Image
INDUCTION SESSIONS AT VIJAY PATEL WORKSHOPS Due to the complexity of the projects and this module to be exact, getting trained by professionals is of high importance. The workshops will enable me to build upon the practical skills I already possess. This post will be based on the plastic moulding workshop I attended to gain more insight into that particular craft                                                           The workshop began by the tutor giving us information on the health and safety tips we are supposed to abide by whilst using the workshop. This is concerning the machines we can use and the machines that cannot be operated without the guidance of the workshop operators. The machines with green labels can be used without supervision, machines with yellow/ amber labels can be used without supervision if you have experience in using it and the machines with red labels cannot be used without supervision because they are extremely dangerous. The next thing we di
